Scope and Contents of the Materials

These papers comprise of Mackenzie’s notes from courses that he taught at Washington University, a few personal writings, and numerous items that chronicle his interest in military matters from World War I and World War II.

Collection Historical Note

Born in rural Nova Scotia and later educated at Harvard University, W. Roy Mackenzie was a faculty member of Washington University in the Department of English for 42 years beginning in 1918.   He is considered by many to be the greatest authority on Shakespeare in America.
