He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in 1897, and then went to Harvard University, where he earned an A.M. in 1904 and his Ph.D. in 1906. Roever initially taught Astronomy at Washington University from 1899 until 1901. He then went to teach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1905 to 1908 before coming back to Washington University in 1908 to teach mathematics. Roever was the founder and first president of Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematical honor society at Washington University, and later became the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics. He died on January 31, 1951 in St. Louis.
