Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection is comprised of correspondence, clippings, and 9 reels of microfilm that chronicle labor history, particularly in St. Louis.  The publications listed below were removed from this collection and may be found in the University Archives reference collection:

Collection Historical Note

David Burbank took a few classes at Washington University School of Architecture.  Later, he was a library building security assistant at Washington University.  His grandfather, Amos Thayer, was a federal judge of the Eighth Circuit , and his mother, Louise January Thayer, was a relative of Mrs. Robert Bookings.  Burbank was part of the Labor Movement for a time, and studied the St. Louis general strike of 1877.  He wrote Reign of the Rabble, the St. Louis General Strike of 1877 Augustus M. Kelley, Publishers, New York, 1966.
