Scope and Contents of the Materials

This material was collected by Ben Zaricor as President of Washington University Student Union, including: correspondence, proposals to University Community Council concerning student rights and judicial procedures, reports regarding student activities, student assembly minutes, material on student strikes, material on G.E. strike, material on judicial proceedings against Washington University students.  Other material includes items from his time as a student, various Washington University publications, and material relating to the Sociology Department.

Collection Historical Note

Ben Zaricor graduated from Overton High School in Memphis, Tennessee in May 1965.  Later in 1965, Zaricor began taking night classes at Washington University in St. Louis, while working as a stack attendant in the University library.  In the fall of 1968, he was accepted into the day school of the University.  As a student, Zaricor was very active in students’ rights and student activities and was elected Student Union president in 1969-1970.  He graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
