The collection also contains a notebook by Cohen which held notes about Sward and notes toward The Play, a collaborative work by Sward and Cohen.

Collection Historical Note

Robert David Cohen is an American author active largely during the 1960s.  He attended William Howard Taft High School and City University of New York City College.  After being active in the New York poetry scene, Cohen moved to Mexico where he co-edited El Corno Emplumado/The Plumed Horn with Margaret Randall from 1968-1969.  Cohen next moved to Cuba (1969-1976).  After returning to the United States in 1976, Cohen worked as a journalist at the United Nations and in Washington until 1990, when he joined UNICEF as a speech writer and then communication officer. After retiring in 2008, Cohen set up the communication consulting company, Rain Barrel Communications, with Paul Hoeffel.

Cohen was a close friend of the poet Robert Sward. Cohen, Sward, and the late British writer Ann Quin corresponded regularly and worked closely together on a number of projects in the 1960's, especially when the three were together in Mexico.
