John A. Palen (1942 - ) was born in Missouri. His poems have appeared in little magazines and journals, including Poetry Northwest, Kansas Quarterly, Passages North, Birmingham Poetry Review, Controlled Burn, and Driftwood Review. He has also published translations of Heinrich Heine and Heinz Czechowski.
Palen had authored author of several books of poetry including Evidence, Wreckage, Harbinger (2002). He has been a writer in residence at several public schools in Michigan. A fourth-generation journalist, Palen was a newspaper reporter and editor for 20 years, and taught journalism at Central Michigan University. He also put out Midland Issues, an independent, subscriber-supported monthly newsletter covering local government in his hometown.
