Detailed Description
Item 1: Receipts, checks, bills for business and personal accounts, primarily in St. Louis. Most are consigned to James T. Sweringen, some are copies or duplicates receipted by Sweringen. Several items, c.1860, are apparently endorsed to a W. G. Sweringen, possibly another relative, 1832-1872
Item 2: Receipts. Arthur B. Barret, Edwin Harrison, J. Freeman, Dr. Farrar and others. Several of the items are in the name of Chouteau, Harrison and Valle and a list of the firms involved in these transactions include: W.H. Gray and Co., Eugene Jaccard and Co., Scruggs, Vandervoort and Barney, Alexander Leitch and Co., Porter, Worthington and Co., J.B. Orne, Cupples and Marston, Burrows and Jennings, 1832-1872
Item 3: Receipts for local newspaper subscriptions: the St. Louis Dispatch, 1870; St. Louis Evening News and Intelligencer, 1860; Alton Observer, 1835-37; Missouri Republican, 1841; St. Louis Commercial Buletin, 1839; St. Louis American, 1841; and the Missouri Argus, 1840, 1835-1870
Item 4: George N. Tower, Albany, New York to James T. Sweringen containing letter of introduction and recommendation for J. F. Terrill, tailor, 1836: November 17
Item 5: Order from [Col. W.H.S.] Wallace, Brigade Headquarters, Brides Point, Missouri, containing special order [overseen by] C.W. Hotchkiss, by which Lieut. Col. [Rombrauss or Rombauer] is authorized to return by steamer Louisiana to St. Louis and to report to Major General Fremont, 1861: August 12
