The Cummington Community of the Arts was founded as the Music Box in 1923 by harpist Katherine Frazier and functioned as a summer arts school until 1968. Located in Massachusetts, Cummington selected artists of all disciplines and offered them a living and studio space. Cummington was set apart from other colonies such as Yaddo and MacDowell as the only artists’ colony in the United States to accept artists with their children and its commitment to the emerging artist.
Scope and Contents: Rainbow Grease. Large envelope (12.75 x 14.75 in.) containing multicolored paper with various poems and artwork. The items were put together by The Greasers, who include: Jana Hicken; Don Bell; Susan Tinkelman; Joy Vaughan; Janet Felsten; and Peter White.
