Zimmerman was married to Isabelle Lowis Zimmerman.  He was a past president of the Colonial Rifle and Pistol Club, a member of the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island, and also held membership in the Staten Island Power Squadron and the Quiet Birdsmen, a national organization of pilots.  He was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Stapleton.  Zimmerman died on December 7, 1967.
